What is Journal of Experimental & Clinical Assisted Reproduction?

Journal of Experimental & Clinical Assisted Reproduction (JECAR) is an Open Access, peer-reviewed, online journal that considers research into reproductive endocrinology, infertility, bioethics and the advanced reproductive technologies.

The field exists as a sub-specialty of obstetrics & gynecology, focused on diagnosis and treatment of complex human reproductive problems. The field is relatively new, and its continued growth depends on quality research undertaken both by proven scientists as well as junior investigators who share in the task of making contributions to this area of medical and surgical practice.

JECAR aims to report on important developments impacting the field of human reproductive medicine and surgery. The journal exists to offer rapid peer-review for research in the dynamic field of the advanced reproductive technologies. Importantly, such reports will be freely available to a global audience in a full-text format to facilitate comprehensive sharing of investigative insights, laboratory methods, and surgical techniques. No other journal presently has these objectives.

Content overview

JECAR considers the following types of articles:

• Research - reports of data from original research.
• Book reviews - short summaries of the strengths and weaknesses of a book. They should evaluate its overall usefulness to the intended audience.
• Case reports - reports of clinical cases that can be educational, describe a diagnostic or therapeutic dilemma, suggest an association, or present an important adverse reaction.
• Commentaries - short, focused and opinionated articles on any subject within the scope of the journal. These articles are usually related to a contemporary issue, such as recent research findings.
• Debate articles - present an argument that is not essentially based on practical research. Debate articles can report on all aspects of the subject including sociological and ethical aspects.
• Hypotheses - short articles presenting an untested original hypothesis backed solely by previously published results rather than any new evidence.
• Methodology articles - present a new experimental method, test or procedure. The method described may either be completely new, or may offer a better version of an existing method.
• Reviews - comprehensive, authoritative description of any subject within the journal's scope.
• Short reports - brief reports of data from original research.

Peer review policies

• Journal of Experimental & Clinical Assisted Reproduction's peer-review process is configured to promote quality research without delay.
• The abstract of each manuscript is reviewed by two internal referees, which may include members of the Editorial Board. Authors can expect a response regarding this preliminary review within one week, and manuscripts judged inappropriate or outside the scope of the journal are identified accordingly.
• Manuscripts judged to be within the scope of the journal are reviewed by at least one independent referee. Referees' comments are relayed to corresponding authors in a confidential/anonymous manner, and all communication regarding submissions is through the journal's Editorial Office.
• We anticipate peer-review of each manuscript to take 3 weeks. A final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief. It may be necessary to enlist additional reviewers and/or statisticians to assure the highest quality manuscripts are chosen for publication.

Publishing in Journal of Experimental & Clinical Assisted Reproduction

All articles will be listed in PubMed immediately upon acceptance (after peer review), and will be covered by PubMed Central, CAS and Embase.

Articles in Journal of Experimental & Clinical Assisted Reproduction should be cited in the same way as articles in a traditional journal. However, because articles in this journal are not printed, they do not have page numbers. Instead, they have a unique article number.

refers to article 1 from volume 2 of the journal.

As an online journal, Journal of Experimental & Clinical Assisted Reproduction does not have issue numbers either. Each volume corresponds to a calendar year.

Journal of Experimental & Clinical Assisted Reproduction is published by BioMed Central, an independent publisher committed to ensuring peer-reviewed biomedical research is Open Access. That means it is freely and universally accessible online, it is archived in at least one internationally recognised free access repository, and its authors retain copyright, allowing anyone to reproduce or disseminate articles, according to the BioMed Central copyright and licence agreement. Journal of Experimental & Clinical Assisted Reproduction however, has taken this further by making all its content Open Access.

Journal of Experimental & Clinical Assisted Reproduction's articles are archived in PubMed Central, the US National Library of Medicine's full-text repository of life science literature, and also in repositories at the University of Potsdam in Germany, at INIST in France and in e-Depot, the National Library of the Netherlands' digital archive of all electronic publications. The journal is also participating in the British Library's e-journals pilot project, and plans to deposit copies of all articles with the British Library.

BioMed Central is working closely with the Institute for Scientific Information to ensure that citation analysis of articles published in Journal of Experimental & Clinical Assisted Reproduction will be available.
